I do not speak with hyperbole when I say that The Farm College Collaboration Project makes the world a better, braver, more compassionate and more thoughtful place. I witnessed it in rehearsal, in production, and in the talk-backs with the audiences where they shared personal stories bravely and generously. " - Micheline Auger, playwright

The Farm Theater's College Collaboration:
The Farm Theater commissions an early career playwright to write a play that multiple schools independently produce throughout the academic year. The faculty, students, and playwright collaborate throughout the year in the development of the text. The majority of the characters will be under thirty years of age so that undergraduate actors can successfully play the roles. The play will reflect the students’ thoughts on the theme suggested by the playwright. There is nothing more valuable for the development of a writer than process of bringing their play to production. The multiple productions develop the script; more importantly they strengthen the writer's voice. Students too are empowered by recognizing the value of their personal artistry to the development of the play. They grow as artists and as empowered individuals. |
These past few months, I have been interviewing for jobs as I gear up for graduation, and one thing several interviewers have mentioned to me is how my Farm Theater credits set me apart from other similarly qualified applicants. Most importantly, however, I have learned that a mix of respect, passion, and care, tempered with genuine love for your work is the strongest foundation on which to build theatrical art, and I plan to take these lessons with me for the rest of my life." - Rachel Kent, Centre College '18
